Solar Printing also known as Blue Printing or Cyanotype Printing is one of the oldest forms of non-silver photographic printing processes known to mankind! What it does is uses the chemical composition of certain chemicals reaction to the UV rays of the sun to produce these beautiful blue coloured paintings. The science works much like an X-Ray and is super fun to make! ☀️
It's a fairly simple process but very very fun! It works on the principle of negative printing. How when you usually print anything, you end up adding colour to the paper. This is about making the painting by removing the colour i.e by creative a 'negative'. 📷
When you mix the two chemicals provided and put them on paper. The chemical combination becomes photosensitive which means that it will now turn colour when you expose it to sun light. You can now choose any stickers or dried leaves or flowers and place them on the paper. 🌸
Once you keep the paper in the sun, the part that gets exposed to the sunlight will start turning greenish and the part that is not exposed to the sun (the one under the leaves/ flowers) will remain white. On holding the paper under running water, you will see that the greenish colour now turn into a beautiful blue!
